Delete your Churchd account
You can delete your account yourself in the app, or ask us to do it by email. Here is exactly what happens to your information.
Delete it in the app
- Sign in to Churchd on your phone or at churchd.com.
- Go to the More tab and open Settings.
- Scroll down and choose Delete account.
- Read the list of what will be removed and type DELETE.
- Confirm it's you: enter your password and choose Delete account. If you sign in with Google or Apple, Google or Apple will ask you to confirm it's you instead.
Nothing is removed until you've confirmed it's you. If something goes wrong partway, the app tells you exactly what wasn't removed and lets you try again.
Ask us by email
No longer have the app, or can't sign in? Email us and we'll delete your account for you.
Write from the email address on your Churchd account and use the subject "Delete my account". We'll delete your account and the information listed below within 7 days and email you when it's done. If you write from a different address, we'll ask you to confirm the account is yours first.
What we delete right away
When you delete your account in the app, we remove:
- Your sign-in account (email and password) and your profile (name, photo link, bio and settings, including your email and notification settings)
- If you sign in with Apple, Churchd's connection to your Apple Account
- Posts you shared, including events, updates and prayer requests, and those you shared anonymously, along with the comments people left on them
- Your comments on other people's posts
- Your Community Board listings
- Your "I'm interested" requests for serving teams
- Your RSVPs to events and your reactions on posts
- Your class sign-ups and check-ins (the class's count goes down by one)
- The churches and pages you follow, your friends and friend requests, and your saved events
- Your Bible highlights, notes, favorites and reading settings
- Your home church
- The people you blocked
- Notifications sent to you, and notifications you sent to other people
- Your requests to join groups and classes
- Message requests you sent that nobody accepted
- Your place in conversations: you're taken off the member list and your name and photo come off. If you lead a group, it passes to the next member, and a group with nobody else in it is deleted.
What the app doesn't delete yet
These stay after you delete your account in the app, because other people manage them or because the app can't reach them yet. Email support@churchd.com and we'll remove them within 7 days. If you ask us to delete your account by email, we remove these too.
- Messages you sent, with your name and any photos or files. People in group chats can still see them.
- Your reactions on comments and messages
- Your name and contact details on serving team rosters, the contact details and screening status a team's leaders keep, and walk-in entries or attendance a class leader recorded
- Photos and files you uploaded, such as your profile photo, post and board photos, and chat attachments
- Church claims, page applications and church suggestions you sent, which include your contact details
- Reports you sent
What we keep
- Churches, pages, classes, groups and serving teams you created or help manage stay up for their communities. Ask us if something should come down.
- Blocks other people placed on your account belong to them, so we don't remove them.
- If our filters ever stopped something you wrote, we keep a short note of which rule stopped it and when (never your words) for about a year, to help keep people safe. Reports are kept as long as we need them for safety.
- Our usage counts are anonymous and aren't connected to your account, so there's nothing of yours in them to delete. We remove them after about 13 months.
- As our Privacy Policy explains, some information may remain in backups for a limited time, or where the law requires us to keep it.
